Why we need ten lakh community microschools in India

We might have already solved the most challenging issues in access to education, and we don't realize it yet. It's because we are still thinking about education using old ideas. That it needs access to a good teacher, that a well-stocked, resource-rich physical school needs to be accessible to kids. That was true for most of our recent history, but not at all true after India became the world capital for cheapest bandwidth. World class resources and peer-communities are now a click away. Only two things are required: a willingness to learn, and access to an internet connected PC.

Imagine a scenario where students no longer have to travel long distances to get to school, because their school is right in their own village or neighborhood. A small, frugal, yet cutting-edge model of education - the community microschool. It's a local enterprise, deeply embedded in the community, where everyone knows everyone else. There's no place to hide, no room for mediocrity or apathy. There is no well-meaning but woefully out of date curriculum to bore learners and leach away their inborn curiosity and willingness to learn. It is a group of kids and the world at their finger tips, with their unfolding interests as their GPS. This is already happening. We just a lot more of them, and right away.

In these microschools, students learn from each other, leveraging the power of peer-to-peer learning. They have access to the world's best teachers through online resources, and benefit from AI personalized tutoring, all while learning in their local language. Imagine a student in a remote village learning physics from the legendary Richard Feynman, watching his lectures online for free. Or a girl discovering her passion for coding by taking a course on Khan Academy, taught by industry experts. The classroom sizes are small, enabling personalized attention and support for each child.

The beauty of this model lies in its flexibility, sustainability, and scalability. It operates on a low investment and operational costs, making it cost-effective and accessible to all. The pedagogy is world-class and cutting-edge, centered around student-directed learning. And that is incredible because education up until now has done everything but put the student’s needs, hopes and desires at the center.

The community microschool model ensures that every child, no matter their location, has access to quality education. This is education as self-expansion.  It's a revolution in education, one that has the potential to transform and empower lives and communities across India.

This is our chance to rewrite the future of India. To unleash the vast potential of our youth and give them the tools they need to make the world better for all. The community microschool model is not just a solution; it's a battle cry, a declaration of war against ignorance and inequality. It's time to rise up, to take action, and to create a brighter tomorrow for every child in India. The revolution starts now, and it starts with us.
